Alum Creek Watershed
Alum Creek originates near the village of Cardington in Morrow County.  The creek flows through the communities of Kilbourne, Westerville, and Columbus.  Alum Creek junctions with Big Walnut Creek south of Columbus.

Alum Creek Reservoir was completed on Alum Creek in 1976.  This lake was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers for water supply, recreation, and flood protection.

The City of Westerville, which has supplied its own drinking water since 1902, uses Alum Creek, Alum Creek Reservoir, and Westerville Reservoir (also located along Alum Creek) as its primary source of water.

  • Drainage Area:  54,345 acres (85 square miles)
  • 107 miles of streams
  • Contains Alum Creek Reservoir (3305 acres) & Westerville Reservoir (54 acres)
