Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District

The Delaware SWCD, located in DELAWARE COUNTY, OHIO, is an independent subdivision of the state of Ohio, which is governed by a locally elected Board of Supervisors.  The SWCD is associated with the ODNR-Division of Soil and Water Resources and funded with local tax dollars that are matched by the State of Ohio.

The primary purpose of the SWCD is to bring people, government agencies and private interests together to manage the natural resources and environmental challenges of Delaware County and the State of Ohio.

June 4th – Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) are having a tremendous impact on the trees in our woodlands and yards.  Learn how to recognize the signs of both and how to best manage these two invasive insects.  Instructor is Amy Stone, Lucas County OSU Extension;

June 11th – Gypsy moth, thousand canker disease on walnut, viburnum leaf beetle, and hemlock wooly adelgid presented by Kathy Smith and Amy Stone. 

June 18th – Focus on invasive plants on wildlife, white nose syndrome in bats and feral hogs and their impacts to the landscape.  OSU Extension Marne Titchenell and Eric McConnell and USDA/APHIS Wildlife Service, Craig Hicks will speak on invasive species impacts on wildlife and the wood products that our woodlands produce. 

June 25th – Series Wrap-Up with focus on many non-native invasive plants that are impacting our natural landscapes, such as, bush honeysuckle, autumn olive, buckthorn, callery pear, and garlic mustard.  Instructor Kathy Smith, OSU Extension, will teach how to identify them and instruct on the most successful methods to control and remove them.
